Sextortion: pay or the images go to your contacts

A fake profile starts an intimate chat and gets images. Then comes the threat: pay or the images go to your contacts. Paying does not stop the threat. Ask SaferNet for help.

How it works

  1. An attractive profile starts a chat on social media or a dating app and steers it to intimacy.
  2. They record the call or keep the images, or only pretend to have them.
  3. They threaten to send them to family and friends unless you pay. Sometimes they say they were a minor.

Where it usually starts: dating app, social media, messaging app.

What Bipe does not solve here

The warning points to SaferNet when a message makes a threat and asks for money. The threat can come from another app, where the images were shared.

Bipe only protects the chats that happen in Bipe. If someone in the family still uses another app, a scammer can write to them there.
