The fake support scam: "this is support, send me your PIN"

Someone says they are support for an app, a shop or the carrier and asks for a code, your PIN or that you install an app. Real support never asks for any of this.

Also called: fake support, fake customer service.

How it works

  1. The scammer writes or calls as support: account blocked, payment declined, order cancelled.
  2. To fix it, they ask for the code you got, your PIN or your card details.
  3. Sometimes they ask you to install an app, and then they control your phone.

Where it usually starts: messaging app, phone call, SMS.

How to spot it

  • The contact came without you asking.
  • They ask for a PIN, a code or card details.
  • They threaten to cut the service or block the account today.

What to do

  • Do not pass on a code, PIN or card details. Nobody from Bipe asks for your PIN.
  • Close the chat and find support through the official app or site.
  • Gave data? Change your PIN, talk to your bank and file a police report.
