The fake receipt scam: the screenshot arrived, the money did not

The buyer sends a receipt screenshot and asks for the item. The Pix was scheduled and cancelled, or the receipt was edited. A screenshot does not prove payment.

Also called: fake payment receipt, scheduled Pix scam, fake buyer.

How it works

  1. The scammer answers your ad and takes the price without haggling.
  2. They send a screenshot of a scheduled Pix, or an edited receipt, and ask you to ship today.
  3. Then they cancel the schedule. You lose the item and get no money.

Where it usually starts: marketplace, messaging app, in person.

How it arrives on Bipe. Simulation with sample people and messages.

How to spot it

  • The receipt says "scheduled".
  • The buyer is in a rush and sends a courier to collect.
  • The money does not show in your statement yet.

What to do

  • Hand over the item only after you see the money in your bank app statement.
  • A receipt screenshot does not prove payment.
  • Fell for it? Keep the chats and file a police report.

What Bipe does not solve here

Bipe does not read your bank account. The warning reminds you to check, but you do the check.

Bipe only protects the chats that happen in Bipe. If someone in the family still uses another app, a scammer can write to them there.
